The School of Arts and Humanities is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Chris Young as the next Head of School.

Professor Young will take up his new post in January 2019 following a period of research leave, some of which he will spend at UC Berkeley.

Professor Young commented: 'It has been a great pleasure to work with Martin Millett and many others in Mill Lane over the last few years as the School has mapped out its ten-year vision. I'm looking forward to continuing this work and facing new challenges after a period of research and reflection'.

Professor Young has been Deputy Head of School since 2014, a position he has combined with Acting University Librarian from October 2016. During this time, he chaired the committee that introduced two new joint Triposes, has been Director of the Cambridge AHRC DTP, and has served on the General Board and the General Board's Education Committee.

Professor Young is Professor of Modern and Medieval German Studies in the Faculty of Modern and Medieval Languages, specialising in medieval German language and literature and sport in modern Europe. He is a Fellow of Pembroke College and Co-Director of the DAAD Research Hub in German Studies.
